I am not sure if this is the correct place to place this
post but I am using Windows 2000 and Windows Media Player
always opens at startup. It isnt in the startup list in
programs and I can't find anything to stop it loading.

Look in the registry:

Start | Run | regedit | OK then navigate to either or both of these keys and select it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

If you see the Windows Media Player executable (depends on the version you are using) on the right that's the culprit.
