"Runtime Error cidaemon.exe The appllication requested
the runtime to terminate it in an unusual manner. Please
contact the application support team for more information"
cidaemon.exe is located in the system32 directory along
with hundreds of others so there is no way of knowing what
application might be involved. Typical of MS runarounds.
Another one is that this appears to have a known hotfix
connected with SP4 and the indexing service. But you have
to get the hotfix from MS support and when you go to the
trouble of signing up for a .net passport and looking up
the 2K p.i.d., you find that they refer you to the OEM
since this product came from them rather than a the
manufacter of some packaged unit like Dell or HP. No one I
know buys packaged units and when you get a motherboard and
a case and an os by mailorder or whatever, you almost
always wind up with and OEM product and MS will not even
supply you with their hotfix for a known bug in their
product.
I don't have the $99 support fee that would cover their
ass, so would someone who has run into this before send me
the necessary patch or suggestions of dealing with the
problem. The error message pops up continually and
generally makes life even more miserable than usual with an
MS product.
